At Camp Horizons we offer a huge assortment of diverse
activities. So you may gain a better perspective on the
depth and breadth of the offerings, we have provided a
representative sample two-week schedule below. To support
such a wide range of activities throughout the summer, some
activities offered may change every two weeks. Again, please
note that the schedule presented here is just for illustrative
purposes and is not to be completed and returned.

Here are brief descriptions of some of Camp Horizons' unique activities that may need explanations. Please note: Not all activities are offered every two weeks. A camper's schedule can always be changed with a signed note from a parent to be brought back to camp the next morning.

SPORTS

ESPN SPORTS - Participate in a variety of sporting events such as softball distance hitting and basketball free throw accuracy. Try to break sports’ figure’s records such as Barry Bonds’ H.R. record and Barry Sanders’ rushing record.

FITNESS AND RUNNING - Start or maintain good physical balance by incorporating running skills and exercise.

FUN GAMES - Play creative and innovative group games outdoors.

NEWCOMB - Play a volleyball-style game using throwing and catching skills instead of hitting the ball.

PILO POLO - Play outside floor hockey-style games using soft-styrofoam sticks and a soft large ball.

PRISON BALL - Play a game similar to dodge ball with added action, played with nerf equipment.

SPEEDBALL - Play a combination of soccer and basketball.

TEAM HANDBALL - Play a combination of soccer, with throwing and catching skills.

TRACK AND FIELD EVENTS - Participate in events such as distance running, sprints, softball throw, and long jump.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE - Learn a combination of frisbee throwing skills with a game much like soccer.

WEIGHT TRAINING - Instruction of skills and techniques using low weights and repetitions.

A- LOTTA-TERRA-COTTA - Get creative with clay pots as we make gum ball machines, a bird feeder, shelf sitters and more.
BANDANA BOUTIQUE – Like to sew? Create halter tops, skirts, bags, headbands and more from bandanas. You’ll learn to sew by hand and then decorate your accessories and garments.
BASKETWEAVING – Weave baskets with straw reeds on a wooden base.
BEADIE BUDDIES - Choose fun things to make out of multi-colored pony beads.
BEAR IN MY POCKET - Make a pocket sized stuffed bear. Basic knowledge of hand sewing is helpful.
BUILD A CAMP BEAR - Make and stuff a Camp Horizons’ teddy bear. Basic knowledge of hand sewing is helpful.
CANDY CUSHIONS – Sew decorative pillows resembling your favorite pieces of candy.
CARTOON EMBROIDERY – Learn the art of embroidery to create your favorite cartoon characters on caps and bags.
CARTOONING – Learn the art of drawing faces and figures such as cartoon characters.
COMFORT QUILTS – Everyone loves a comfy quilt. Learn the art of quilting by sewing together fabric squares. You can add patches from fabric you have at home to make your quilt a truly personal piece.
COMIC BOOK DESIGN – Learn how to create and illustrate your own characters and story to make your very own comic book.
COOL COLOR CREATIONS – Design your own light switch cover, create a 3D view picture box and create colorful projects with visors, key chains, message boards, treasure boxes and more.
CORK AND CHALKBOARDS – Create and decorate your own bulletin board that’s one-half chalkboard and one-half corkboard with a decorative frame.
CRAZY BALLOONS - Learn to twist balloons into fun shapes to create creatures and recognizable objects.
CRAZY CARICATURES - Trace pre-drawn facial features and bodies to create your own caricatures of your friends and family.
CREATE YOUR OWN BOARD GAME - Make and design your own game boards and pieces out of wood to play your favorite games.
CREATE YOUR OWN DREAM ROOM –A box becomes the miniature room of your dreams with furniture, wall and window treatments, and accessories that you create. Finish by painting the outside.
DAY AT THE SPA - Have fun with your friends as you make natural beauty treatments for your face and body - plus hair and nail design.
DENIM DESIGNS - Bring an old pair of jeans (any size) to create pocketbooks, purses, photo albums and more! You'll also learn how to sew if you don't already know (hand sewing is necessary for most projects).
DRAWING FUNNY FACES - Trace heads, noses, eyes, mouths, hair and more features to make "funny" versions of people.
DUCT TAPE DOO-DADS – Learn to make anything out of colorful duct tape, from a wallet to a vest, that you can use. You are limited only by your imagination.
EASEL PAINTING – Use acrylic painting to create a beautiful painting on canvas using a step-by-step method.
EGG-CITING PAPER MACHE - Create adorable egg-shaped paper mache animals.
FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS – BEGINNING - Learn the basic methods of knot-tying to make these fashionable bracelets.
FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS - ADVANCED - Use embroidery floss to make bracelets such as the cane stripes (simplest) to the name bracelet (most challenging).
FUN WITH DRAWING – Learn basic drawing techniques and surprise yourself when you discover your hidden talents.
FUN WITH CROCHET - With a turn of the hook and a twist of the yarn you will learn simple crochet stitches. Create a purse, belt or bookmark.
FUN WITH KNITTING – For the advanced knitter, learn different types of stitches to express your creativity.
FUNKY FIMO CLAY – This pliable colorful clay can be formed into wonderful patterns and shapes and baked in a toaster oven to harden it permanently. Can be made into jewelry, or use to decorate candle holders and light switch plates.
FURNITURE DESIGN – Learn painting techniques such as faux finishing, stenciling and stippling to decorate wooden pieces.
FUSE BEADS – Using plastic beads on a template, form creative patterns which will be ironed to melt the beads into a permanent object.
HAND-BUILT CERAMICS – Experience the fun of working with clay by forming it into the shapes of your choice. Learn techniques to build and sculpt clay. All projects will be glazed and fired.
HEARTS AND ART - Turn a simple wooden heart into a fabulous design such as a diva heart mirror, a flower pot heart or scrapbook them into bouquets and cards.
JAPANESE ANIME - Learn to draw this popular form of animation from Japan featuring "big-eyed" characters.
JAZZY JOURNALS – Make your own books for whatever purpose you choose, such a scrapbooks, autograph books, diaries, address books, or notebooks. The possibilities are endless.
JEWELRY DESIGN - Design and create beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry using beads, wire, hemp and more.
KISSIN’ CRITTERS – Using yarn and plastic canvas, create adorable 3-sided imaginative creatures.
KNITTING - BEGINNING - The hottest craze - knitting! Learn how to cast on and off. You may learn how to make a belt or scarf.
KNITTING ADVANCED - Learn to make a bag using regular needles or learn to make a loop-de-loop scarf using circular needles.
KOLOR KRAFTS - Make colorful message centers, hats, tack boards, wristbands, wacky frames plus a 3D view picture and more.
LANYARDS AND LACING - Have fun making lanyards, stretch bracelets, beadie buddies and more.
MAGIC PICTURE TRANSFERS - Make your own stickers by transferring magazine pictures to tape.
MAKE YOUR OWN HAIR ACCESSORIES - Match your favorite skirt, shirt or shorts by making these fashion hits to accessorize your hair.
MAKE YOUR OWN TRADING CARDS - Create your own set of sports’ cards for your favorite team. For example, you may use the Camp Horizons' softball team, any professional team, fantasy league team, or your friends. You will design the cards, draw the pictures and gather the facts.
MAP MAKING - Looking to go on an adventure? Join us in a class where you create your own journey while making a 3-D map.
MARSHMALLOW CLAY – Build a miniature town, an Eskimo village, aliens, robots or anything that you can imagine using self-drying model-magic clay.
MEXICAN WEAVING – Using brightly colored yarn, learn to weave around popsicle sticks to create southwestern Indian ceremonial shields.
MINI-MANSIONS - Design your own mansion out of a box! Make and decorate rooms and furniture, create great front doors, lovely windows and paint the outside.
MOSAICS – Learn the art of using beautiful mosaic tiles and grout to embellish trays, flowerpots, votives and more.
MUMMY MAKING - We will paint, color and draw Egyptian mummies.
ORIGAMI – Japanese paper folding is relaxing, easy and fun! Create animals, small baskets and wallets – and all you need is paper.
PAPER MACHE PINATAS – Using newspaper, glue and tissue paper, you will make a piñata filled with candy. When finished, enjoy the fun of breaking it apart to get to the treats inside.
PAPERMAKING FOR FUN – Have fun getting messy while making your own paper pulp. You will use the pulp to create multi-media artwork.
PEN PEOPLE - Create adorable pen dolls by winding embroidery floss around simple ballpoint pens, then adorn with accessories.
PERSONALIZATION – Learn to master “bubble letter” writing to personalize and design your own door signs and pennants. Once you learn the technique, you can personalize loose leafs, picture frames, lunchboxes and gifts for family and friends.
PHOTO ALBUMS AND MEMO BOARDS – Small albums will receive padded coverings and creative décor. Fashionable and popular padded boards will be made using fabric, ribbon and buttons.
POCKET PALS – Make a pocket board, hanging organizer, magnetic pocket holder, pom-pom pals in a pocket bag, coin purse and other projects using pockets to organize your treasures.
POP-UP CARDS - With simple cut and folds, we will have fun making 3-D and moving pictures.
POTTERY WHEEL – Learn to “throw “ pots on the wheel and form them into interesting shapes. All projects will be fired and glazed.
POM-POM PETS - Use pom-poms and other materials to create animals, people or objects such as skateboarding dogs, bears with ice cream cones and cats tangled in a ball of yarn.
PRESSED FLOWER DESIGN - Using real flowers, learn to dry and press them to be used as art decoration.
PUFFY PETS - Turn your favorite animal or pet into a puffy pet with fabric and a few stitches and puff they are yours to take home.
PUNCH PICTURES - Punch fun shapes from colored paper and use them to create people and animals. You won't believe the possibilities!
RAINBOW WRAPS - Create rainbow colored projects using wrapped plaster-coated gauze, such as delicious looking ice cream sundaes.
RED, WHITE AND BLUE CRAFTS - Make great decorations for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day, or just show your patriotic side, all with a red, white and blue theme.
SCENERY DESIGN – If you love to paint, this is the class for you. We design and paint the backdrop for the Camp Horizons' play. View your work with pride on stage during the production.
SCRAPBOOKING – Learn this popular craft to preserve and enhance your favorite photos.
SHADOWBOXES – Build, decorate, fill and display a shadowbox with a personalized theme that you choose.
SODA CAN PILLOWS - Draw, sew, and stuff these popular pillows that resemble your favorite soft drink.
STAINED GLASS - Create the effect of beautiful colored stained glass on acrylic and lucite.
SUNBEAM CATCHERS - Work with beads and plastic string to create flowers, flags and dragonflies that gleam in the sun.
T-SHIRT DESIGN – Design t-shirts using fun and funky techniques, including hand painting, beading, tie-dying, etc. Campers must supply their own t-shirts.
3-D ANIMALS - Using cardboard and paint, we will create fun, standing animals.
3-D T.V. – You’ll turn a box into a T.V. where you are the star, complete with a commercial, masks for character changes, and more.
WACKY WIRE CREATIONS – Using colorful, moldable wire, we will create people and characters adorned with beads.
WILD ANIMAL CLIP-ONS – Use wild animal designs to decorate and dress up clothespins and clips.
WATERCOLOR PAINTING CALENDARS - Each month of a school year calendar will display your own watercolor artwork.
WEAVING AND LACING - Learn great weaving skills to make string art, lanyards and bracelets.
WINDOW ART - We'll take unique paper and cut it, twist it, paint it and hang it.
WORRY DOLLS - Create small and large dolls by winding embroidery floss around clothespins to make outfits and accessories.
WORRY DOLL WREATHS - Create worry dolls using embroidery floss and adorn a wreath with a family of dolls.

THEATRE

ACTING GAMES - Learn acting techniques through the use of games, skits, etc. BEGINNING DRUMS - Learn rudiments, sticking, tempo and basic beats.

CAMP CHORUS - Group singing with various types of songs.

FUN WITH PUBLIC SPEAKING - Have fun with various types of oral presentations.

HIP-HOP - Learn rhythmic urban style dancing that is popular in music videos.

LINE DANCING - Learn various line dances, like YMCA and The Electric Slide.

MODELING AND FASHION - Put together a fashion show and then perform it.

PARTY DANCING - Learn how to do free style dancing to various types of music.

PIANO/KEYBOARDING - Learn or enhance your musical keyboarding skills. Beginner - for those with little or no knowledge of music. Advanced - for those with previous knowledge and skills.

ROCK BAND - Play guitar, keyboards, drums, bass and sing in a CAMP HORIZONS’ Rock Band. Previous musical experience necessary.

SHOW - Participate for two periods a day for 4 weeks. Techniques such as acting, dancing and singing are applied. No previous experience in these areas is needed. Everyone who signs up will perform.

SHOWSTOPPERS - Learn to sing songs from Broadway and Disney shows both popular and unknown. Have the opportunity to perform a solo or with your friends.

TAP DANCE ALL LEVELS- it is not necessary to buy tap shoes.

ADVANCED COLOR FILM PHOTOGRAPHY/ DARKROOM - For those who have previously taken photography at our camp.

BOARD GAMES - Learn to play various board games such as Clue, Monopoly, Chess and Checkers.

CAMP NEWSPAPER - Write, design and develop a Camp Newspaper.

FIRST-AID TRAINING - Learn basic first-aid techniques.

FUN WITH COOKING - Engage in activities, stories, and simple recipe projects along with learning some basic cooking skills.

FUN WITH MAGIC - Our professional camp magician will teach magic tricks that WOW the entire family.

FUN WITH MATH -Test your math and thinking skills with math puzzles, word games, and mysteries.

FUN WITH NATURE - Explore the trails and learn about the birds, plants, and animals around us.

FUN WITH SCIENCE - Experiment hands-on with fellow scientists!!

HOW TO BE A DJ - Learn all parts of a complete D.J. system and tape D.J./Radio shows.

LEGO DESIGN - Create various Lego structures.

9TH GRADE C.I.T. TRAINING - All 9th graders wishing to work at camp next summer MUST take this activity. Skills and expectations will be discussed and practiced.

PHOTOGRAPHY - Learn photographic skills on a 35 mm still camera including development of the film.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY - Learn parts of a digital camera and digital photography skills.

PLASTIC MODEL MAKING - Select a plastic model and learn the skills of building it from start to finish. Model kits are compliments of Camp Horizons.

ROCKETRY - Construct model rockets you will launch at our Family Rocket Launch Night. Rockets (Level 1 up to $25.00) are compliments of Camp Horizons.

STUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION - Learn to use profession T.V. studio/editing equipment and work as crew members (director, camera, audio, etc.) to create TV shows.
