The environment of Newark Academy provides many different choices for campers' activities. The Art Department not only offers serious “art-like” Drawing and Easel Painting, but also offers crafts for enjoyment like Kissin’ Critters. Of course, Camp Horizons is great for kids who love Sports and campers who want to take activities of all kinds. "Camp has been enjoyable for me since I began in the 5th grade. Starting in the morning, where every camper, whether their parents drive them or they take the mini-bus, is greeted by counselors at the door. Once you arrive you can talk to your friends in the auditorium. Then after the morning announcements you follow your very own schedule. The counselors are very friendly and are willing to help you when you need it. In Rocketry, you build rockets and then get to launch them with your family watching! Now that I'm older, I enjoy having the option of attending the shows on Friday afternoon, or continuing with my schedule."

From the perspective of a Camp Horizons' counselor, I can sincerely say that this camp's intent is to be welcoming, attentive, and caring. Everyday, counselors and staff are encouraged and supported to do their best and be their best. The campers truly come first at Camp Horizons. There are many campers who are befriended by counselors and fellow campers and whose self-esteem is boosted all summer long. There are opportunities everyday for campers to shine, experiment with new interests and perfect old ones, to play team sports and to learn a new sport. Because kids choose their schedule, they are happy to be here. The counselors who are here lend a real richness and diversity to the camp. The owner and director of the camp have mastered the skill of bringing out the very best of the people who work for them with encouragement and appreciation for their hard work.
